Kokanee CF GwyntAfon Gannett NA NAJ     pedigree

He was the first and the reason for all who followed, except the cat. Technically, he is "Kokanee CF GwyntAfon Gannett". We don’t know the significance of "Kokanee CF", but GwyntAfon Gannett is the important part. Since Gannett is the shortest big dog in the state, or biggest short dog, depending on how you look at it, we thought he should be named after the tallest mountain in the state, Gannett Peak. Gannett Peak is in the Wind River Range, which is where the GwyntAfon comes from; it means Wind River in Welsh.

Our short big guy is the best of all things Cardigan; smart, talented, incredibly affectionate, sheds like a fiend and generally expresses his opinions without hesitation. He’s a camper, fishing dog (so long as he can wade), agility dog with serious talent and general all around great companion. Apt for stupid pet tricks, he’s been easy to train in both obedience and agility.

We began competing in agility after almost two years of classes and practice, in November 2002. The first day, I was inclined to make Gannett run home behind the car – all he could do was bark at me about everything. Suffice to say, we were each quite frustrated with the other. Thanks to Barb Petty, teacher, competitor and friend, we triumphed the second day of the trial, with a qualifying run. Gannett proved himself with no questions – he ran a perfect course and was also first place in his height division.

It was February of 2003 before we competed again. Although he was inclined to “discuss” things with me once or twice, overall he was fabulous. Out of seven runs, we qualified five times. Of those five qualifying runs, we were first or second in our height division every time. Gannett earned both his novice titles that second weekend, NA and NAJ. Amazing boy, we are so proud of him!
